If I couldn’t be Anne, by Kallie George and Geneviève Godbout
This week, I would like to introduce you to If I Couldn’t Be Anne written by Kallie George and illustrated by Geneviève Godbout. Do you remember Geneviève Godbout? I had already introduced this illustrator, with her charming style, with The Pink Umbrella. Actually, I wanted to share with you another book from this series of albums inspired by Anne of Green Gables, but it is not yet available at the library. However, If I Couldn’t Be Anne is a book full of poetry and delicacy and deserves a post too!
Constantly, by Gg
This week I’m featuring Canadian illustrator Gg‘s latest book, Constantly. This book was recommended to me by the newspaper, and it was a great experience. I love discovering Canadian artists and small publishing houses like Koyama Press.
Virginia Wolf, by Kyo Maclear et Isabelle Arsenault
Yes, yes, another Isabelle Arsenault book! I enjoy her illustrations so much, I just couldn’t resist when I saw that her books were available on my online library (how great is this service by the way?). If you’ve been here before, you might have stumbled upon my reviews for Jane, the Fox and I; L’Oiseau de Collette; and Louis parmis les spectres. This week, I’m sharing Virginia Wolf written by Kyo Maclear and illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault.

We Are Water Protectors, by Carole Lindstrom et Michaela Goade
The books I reserved through the inter-library loans have finally made their way to me, and I’m so excited to share this one with you. We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade is a wonderful book to introduce children to First Nation People’s values and beliefs as well as to environmental protection issues and movements. It is such a beautiful and important book!
Snow & Rose, by Emily Winfield Martin
I am not sure what is going on with the inter-library loans, but books have been transiting so slowly! I’ve been unlucky and waiting impatiently for some physical books to arrive but without any success. No matter, I turned to the digital library this week, and bring you a book I read last year and reread with such pleasure: Snow & Rose, by Emily Winfield Martin.
Mooncakes, by Loretta Seto and Renné Benoit
I was very excited to order this book through the inter-library loans (I’m not getting over how cool it is to have access to so many books for free!), and even more excited to read it when it finally arrived! This week, I’d like to recommend Mooncakes, written by Loretta Seto and Illustrated by Renné Benoit.
Abécédaire des métiers imaginaires, by Anne Montel
After reading Chaussette a few weeks ago, I immediately reserved this lovely book by Anne Montel. L’abécédaire des métiers imaginaires (Imaginary Jobs ABC Book) finally arrived through the inter-library loan and I was able to explore this lovely book this time entirely by the illustrator Anne Montel.
Chaussette, by Loïc Clément and Anne Montel
This week, I’m bringing you a fresh discovery as I borrowed this book this morning from the library. I love going to the library, and it’s a renewed pleasure since I received my new card last week! There is something really magical and fantastic about having access to all these books for free… but I digress! Let’s go back to Chaussette by Loïc Clément and illustrated by Anne Montel.

The Aventure of Momotaro, the Peach Boy
When I was little, my dad would sometimes take me to the Japanese Library situated in the Montreal Botanical Gardens. It was such a treat (most of all because there was air conditioning)! I loved browsing through the books, even though most of them were unreadable for me. Still, one of my favourite books was the story of a little boy found in a giant peach.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, by Charlie Mackesy
I received this book as a birthday gift this year, and I think it’s becoming a new favourite. This book is so beautiful, from beginning to end! Let me show you The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy.

I’m so happy to share this review with you. I discovered this zine as I was browsing Etsy, and I’m so glad I’ve adopted it! Driving Around, a pandemic journal by Amanda Etches is such an amazingly well made zine.
World of Wonders, by Aimee Nezhukumatahil
I’ve had this book on my to-read list for a while, and I finally ordered it at the beginning of the month. As a collection of essays, it is a bit different from the other books I’ve shared here so far, but since it is so good and illustrated, I thought I’d give it a go! This week, I’d like to share World of Wonders written by Aimee Nezhukumatathil and illustrated by Fumi Mini Nakamura.
Grimoire de Sorcières, by Benjamin Lacombe and Sebastien Perez
I found this book in the smallest bookstore in Quebec City. Quebec City was our stopover town on our way to Rimouski a few summers ago. The bookstore was literally filled from floor to ceiling with old newspapers, ancient farming magazines and between two very old books, this one, much younger, was waiting to be adopted! This week, I bring you Grimoire de Sorcières by Benjamin Lacombe and Sébatien Perez.
