This book. This book is just incredible! I ordered it this year, and it has been such a wonderful special birthday present to myself! Today, I’m sharing The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling, by John Muir Laws.
This book is presented as the ultimate guide to nature journaling, and that’s an understatement. When I received it, I was very surprised by it’s size and weight. This book is gigantic! And it’s so fantastic because it makes it feel like textbook. Fully printed in colour and filled with insightful tips, methods and funny story, this book is just incredible.
John Muir Laws is a naturalist, scientist and artist who was written and illustrated some beautiful guidebooks and “textbooks” such as this one. In this book, he takes you by the hand and goes through everything you might want to know about nature journaling. From what supplies you need, to observation tips, to adding colours and textures, this book is a treasure trove of information for the budding nature journalist and expert naturalist alike. I learned so much through reading this book, and I know I’ll come back to it often.
I love that this book feels like a conversation with the author. The writing is friendly and easy to read which makes this drawing guide stand out from others and quite fun to read. The honest and experienced voice gives it a credibility and enthusiasm for nature journaling that is quite contagious. After going through “the basics” of nature journaling, the author then presents different studies and how to approach particular specimens. It’s very interesting, surprisingly specific, and so beautiful as each page is full of illustrations and journal page examples. This book it truly incredibly rich and generous.
I really cannot recommend this book enough for everyone who wants to get into nature journaling. It is so satisfying to find such a rich and useful resource. I’m not done learning from this book, and I’m excited to go back to it again and again. It is beautifully illustrated and expertly written which makes it a must to add to all bookshelves. Ce livre..! Ce livre est tout simplement incroyable ! Je l’ai commandé cette année, et il a été un merveilleux cadeau d’anniversaire de moi à moi ! Aujourd’hui, je partage The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling, de John Muir Laws.
Ce livre est présenté comme le guide ultime du journal de nature, et c’est un euphémisme. Lorsque je l’ai reçu, j’ai été très surprise par sa taille et son poids. Ce livre est gigantesque ! Et c’est tellement fantastique qu’il donne l’impression d’être un manuel. Entièrement imprimé en couleur et rempli de conseils éclairés, de méthodes et de anecdotes amusantes, ce livre est tout simplement incroyable.
John Muir Laws est un naturaliste, un scientifique et un artiste qui a écrit et illustré de magnifiques guides et “manuels” tels que celui-ci. Dans ce livre, il vous prend par la main et passe en revue tout ce que vous pouvez souhaiter savoir sur le journalisme de nature. Des fournitures dont vous avez besoin aux conseils d’observation, en passant par l’ajout de couleurs et de textures, ce livre est une mine d’informations pour le naturaliste en herbe comme pour le spécialiste. J’ai beaucoup appris en lisant ce livre, et je sais que j’y reviendrai souvent.
J’aime que ce livre ressemble à une conversation avec l’auteur. L’écriture est conviviale et facile à lire, ce qui fait que ce guide de dessin se distingue des autres et est très agréable à lire. La voix honnête et expérimentée de l’auteur lui donne une crédibilité et un enthousiasme pour le journal de nature qui sont tout à fait contagieux. Après avoir passé en revue les “bases” du journal de la nature, l’auteur présente ensuite différentes études et la manière d’aborder des spécimens particuliers. C’est très intéressant, étonnamment précis, et tellement beau car chaque page est pleine d’illustrations et d’exemples de pages de journal. Ce livre est vraiment incroyablement riche et généreux.
I really cannot recommenJe ne saurais trop recommander ce livre à tous ceux qui veulent se lancer dans le journal de nature. C’est tellement satisfaisant de trouver une ressource aussi riche et utile. Je n’ai pas fini d’apprendre de ce livre, et je suis impatiente d’y revenir encore et encore. Il est magnifiquement illustré et rédigé de façon experte, ce qui en fait un ouvrage incontournable à ajouter à toutes les bibliothèques.
