Another surprise discovery made at the library! The Laughing Willow by Pog and Maurèen Poignonec is a mischievous and adorable book that will make you want to find a tree-friend too!
Right away, what I liked about this book were the adorable characters. The two main characters are really charming and so dynamic. Again, I really enjoyed seeing a child playing in nature and not being afraid of his surroundings. The laughing willow is also really funny and full of life. He’s a character you’d like to know! Finally, I also really enjoyed the fact that little birds, animals and other woodland creatures can be found on every page. They too are full of humour and personality and make readers linger at each illustration to find all these characters. It’s a real pleasure to go through this book!
I also really liked the style of the illustrations which have a really nice comic book feel. The illustrations are rich and very colourful, but most of all are full of fun details that are fun to discover. I really liked the use of colours in contrast with white backgrounds: the final effect is clean but also fresh and dynamic. Because the characters are so detailed, they are really showcased by the white backgrounds. And to reinforce this cohesive effect, the choice of colours is limited and leaves all the room to the pencil line. This simplicity is elegant and fun, and fits perfectly with the simple but beautiful story.
I loved discovering this book and found myself laughing and smiling as I read. I had a great time getting to know this laughing willow, and I hope you can get your hands on this lovely, lively and imaginative book too.
Le Saule Rieur par Pog et Maurèen Poignonec

Une autre découverte surprise faite à la bibliothèque! Le saule rieur de Pog et Maurèen Poignonec est un album espiègle et adorable qui vous donnera envie de vous trouver un arbre-ami vous aussi!
Ce qui m’a tout de suite plu avec cet album, ce sont les personnages adorables. Les deux personnages principaux sont vraiment charmants et tellement dynamiques. Encore une fois, j’ai beaucoup aimé voir un enfant qui joue dans la nature et qui n’a pas peur de son environnement. Le saule rieur est également vraiment marrant et pleins d’entrain et de vie. C’est un personage que l’on aimerait connaître! Finalement, j’ai aussi beaucoup apprécié que des petits oiseaux, animaux et autres créatures des bois se retrouvent dans chacune des pages. Ils sont eux aussi plein d’humour et de personnalité et poussent les lecteurs à s’attarder à chaque illustrations pour y trouver tous ces personnages. C’est un vrai plaisir de parcourir cet album!
J’ai également beaucoup aimé le style des illustrations qui ont un coté bande-dessinée vraiment agréable. Les illustrations sont riches et très colorées, mais surtout remplies de détails amusants qu’on a plaisir à découvrir. J’ai beaucoup aimé l’utilisation des couleurs en contraste avec des fonds blancs: l’effet final est épuré mais aussi frais et dynamique. Les personnages étant tellement détaillés, ils sont vraiment mis en valeur par les fonds blancs. Et pour renforcer cet effet de cohésion, le choix des couleurs est limité et laisse toute la place au trait de crayon. Cette simplicité est élégante et amusante, et correspond tout à fait à l’histoire simple mais elle-aussi riche en détail et en beauté.
J’ai doré découvrir ce livre et je me suis surprise à rire et à sourire pendant ma lecture. J’ai passé un excellent moment à apprendre à connaître ce saule rieur, et j’espère que vous pourrez vous aussi mettre la main sur ce joli album, plein de vie et d’imagination.
