Great News! My Calendar is UP!

featured

I’ve been working on this project since the beginning of summer, and it is finally up!

The calendar is available in my store!

I can’t believe it! I spent so much time on this project, and I am so proud of how much my paintings have improved. The calendar features some of my best work and favourite paintings.

I hope you’ll visit the shop, if only to see the different pictures I shared there. I will slowly update my portfolio as well so that each painting is nicely featured. Some of the calendar pages will also be turned into prints and cards and other fun things, but the calendar is a bargain. You basically get 12 prints for a little bit more than the price of 1, plus a wooden hanger, stickers and the calendar grids.

I am lucky enough that my partner is a woodworker, and he was able to make the pine wood hangers that solved all my binding problems. I came up with the solution, and he was kind enough to make the wooden parts at just the right size.

I also made some stickers so that you can personalize the calendar to your life. I’ve included moon phases, birthdays, important dates and other cute symbols.

To make it all even more special, I also added some descriptions to the back of each page. I summoned my poetess heart and wrote some whimsical little paragraphs describing the animals and plants featured in each painting. I hope these little stories will make you even more curious about the natural world and make you want to explore and observe.

I really like the idea that you will have 12 prints and that you will be able to display them once 2023 is over.

And if you are wondering what I’ll be doing for the rest of 2022, well, I’ve started work for the Lunar New Year! Next year will be the year of the rabbit, or the cat in Vietnam. I jumped at this opportunity to paint cats, and I’m excited to create a few pieces for the occasion.

The regular newsletter will be back next week, but I just couldn’t wait to tell you about the calendar!

Please visit this page to see a little video and more pictures!

Take care 🧡🧡🧡

I hope you are all doing well!

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about the next few months and what projects I want to push forward. At the beginning of the year I made a long list of plants I’d like to draw, and even if many have been crossed out, many more are still waiting. Other ideas have made the list even longer! So, I’ve been organizing, prioritizing and trying to make decisions. I’ll keep you posted!

The weather is finally looking up, and we just came back from a little break in the sun with the cats. Our old lady cat is such a sun lover and was so happy to lounge outside for the first time this year.

In other news, I’ve also completed the knitting part of my sweater (remember when I shared just the collar?). I still have a few finishing touches to work on for it to be completely finished, but the larger part of the work is done! Yay!

That’s it!
Until next week,

Take care 🧡🧡🧡

I love when nature documentary sound like thriller films. Sir Attenborough is such a master at this! I really hope this series will be available in Canada soon: The Green Planet from the BBC.

This week, I’ve been dreaming of summer. With our little seedlings growing each day, it is so much fun imagining our garden in just a few weeks. We are planting some different varieties of sunflowers this year: teddy bear and mammoth sunflowers seedlings have sprouted! Maybe it is because of that that I wanted to paint this sunflower. Yellow flower present very particular challenges because yellow paint it quite difficult to move around once it is on paper. Shadows are also different because you don’t want the bright yellow to turn grey or murky. All that makes for a very interesting painting experience. The sunflower also presents its own particular challenges. This time, I’ve surrendered and kept the centre of the flower quite simple, but I think I’ll research some more on the double spiral the seeds form and on how to draw them. In any case, it was once again a very fun painting to work on, and I hope you’ll like it too!

If you want to see more of my painting, head over to my portfolio!

Outside the atelier, I’ve been compulsively checking on our seedlings. Some of the seeds we bought this year were marked as having a low germination rate. So of course, they almost all sprouted! I’m not complaining, but it does mean that we will have some separation work to do. I’m hoping we will be able to do this with minimal disturbance and have good results. Any tips are welcomed!

That’s it!
Until next week,

Take care 🧡🧡🧡

So, did you guess which fascinating plant-insect duo I was painting last week? Well, it was the incredible Monarch butterfly and Milkweed team! These two exceptional beings have a symbiotic relationship: the butterfly helps pollinate the plant, while the plant provides food for the caterpillars. It is truly incredible to learn more about this relationship, and it made the painting that much more fun and interesting. If you live in North America and have access to some land, it is a good idea to see which milkweed species is native to your area and to plant some! They have the most beautiful blooms and seed pods, which makes them attractive plants to have around the garden. Plus, who wouldn’t want to have the chance of seeing beautiful monarch butterflies?

Spring is finally here! Yes, it is still snowing, and yes some days are colder than what I’d like, but look! Tulips have started to show up, promising us incredible blooms and colours.

That’s it!

I’ve started a new painting! I’m experimenting with a different style for this one, and it’s very interesting. This is an idea I’ve had for a long time, and I had planned to work on it later this year, but last week I decided now was the good time for it. Can you guess what I am painting? Here is a hint:

Outside the atelier, things are starting to feel a bit more like Spring. Mind you, everything is still covered under thick snow, but there is something in the air. We are also excited to start our seedlings soon. It’s always such a fun moment to prepare the plants we will have in the garden once the “real” spring will be here. This year, I’m dreaming of flowers and colours all around.

As I work on my new painting, I have been listening to The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend. Some booktubers have compared it to Harry Potter, so I had no choice but to give this book a try. It is very entertaining so far!

That’s it!
Until next week,

Take care 🧡🧡🧡

It’s finished! I finally completed my wild violet painting this week. I am so happy with how it turned out. I am still experimenting with backgrounds and composition, and so this piece is in fact many different parts assembled together. I also wanted to write a bit about violets because they are such pretty flowers. I was inspired by Victorian journals and paintings. I really hope you’ll like this piece. If you want to see more about my process, head over to my portfolio!

Outside the atelier, the temperature are tentatively going slowly up, and it has been such a treat to go out in the sun. Mind you, there is still so much snow everywhere, but there is definitively something different in the air: the first waves of Spring!

I’ve finished the vlog for February (it is linked bellow)! I hope it will be a relaxing moment for you.

That’s it!

This week, I’ve been working hard on a painting I cannot wait to share with you. Progress is slow because I’m dealing still with pain and discomfort. It is much better as you can deduce, since I am back at the painting table! It has been such a comfort to be able to make some progress and to disconnect from everything while painting. I’m trying something a bit different this time, and I hope the final result will be beautiful!

Aside from creating new illustrations, I’m also wondering about diversifying my work to maybe include lessons or tutorials. This is very much still at the seed stage, but the idea keeps coming back to me. If you have any thoughts on this, I’d love to hear them!

Also, I’m working on editing February’s vlog, so stay tuned for it next week!

That’s it!

This week, things have taken a slow turn as I’m dealing with headaches and pain. It’s not fun, but it’s getting better! Things have slowed down quite a bit on the painting front, because I need my brain to be functioning to paint well, but I’ve been sketching a lot and preparing my next paintings. It’s interesting to take more time on these preparation steps. I’m hoping to be able to start painting again by the end of the week. 🤞🤞🤞

I am also taking this time to explore books and picture books. I’m writing down many ideas and notes, and I think something is starting to take shape. More on this soon!

Outside the atelier, I received the book “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro from the inter-library loans. I’m enjoying it a lot! I loved Never Let Me Go, and Klara is as intriguing and so well written.

That’s it!

I hope you are all doing well!

This week, I finally started my wild flower series that I have been planning since last December. Planning Anne had this scheduled for January, but hum, well, things took a bit longer than I had anticipated, and that’s okay! I realized this week that there is no rush. I can take my time and do things properly. It is easy for me to fall into a productivity craze and to forget to that I am one person, doing a one person job. So, I’m taking my time on my first wild flower (the lovely violet) and experimenting with backgrounds and mixed techniques. It is fun… and also very scary and unsettling. In any case, it is a very interesting process, and I’ll share it with you when it’ll be more advanced!

In other news, I also finally received new notebooks for the shop! There was an error in the order (🙄🙄🙄), so I’m still waiting for the Lady Tiger model, but two models are up and ready to be taken home. I hope you’ll take a look and tell me what you think.

I’ve also been in a complete “Neil Gaiman Fan” mood, and I’ve read Stardust, Coraline and the View from the Cheap Seats this week. I’ve just received Anansi Boys (it’s still cold from outside, hihi) and the Graveyard Book which I’ll be starting tonight. It’s really fun to explore an author like this.

That’s it!
Until next week,

Take care 🧡🧡🧡

Large notebooks have hit the store! You can choose between lined, dotted/bullet and blank pages. I hope you find something you’ll like!

These are wonderful if you are looking for a journal, a bullet journal or a sketchbook!

A small treat…

I started my day with this video, and enjoyed it so much. Then it became  a bit weird when I saw that the lady was also named Ann and was a botanical painter who did THE botanical course I’ve been eyeing since I started painting… I’m taking this as a vision into a possible future! In any case, it is such a lovely garden and relaxing video 🙂
