I’ve been working on a calendar project for 2023, and I’m excited to share each month with you. I think these paintings are some of my best work. They were all done in watercolour on watercolour paper and edited digitally.

For this project, I gave myself the theme of “A Year in a Canadian Forest”. I therefore only painted plants and animals that are native (or naturalized) to Canada.

For January, I wanted to capture the darkest month of the year and its magic. The raven and the stag look like they are planning something, aren’t they? The birch forest is think and dense, and will soon be covered in fresh snow.
