I’ve been working on a calendar project for 2023, and I’m excited to share each month with you. I think these paintings are some of my best work. They were all done in watercolour on watercolour paper and edited digitally.

For this project, I gave myself the theme of “A Year in a Canadian Forest”. I therefore only painted plants and animals that are native (or naturalized) to Canada.
For June, I selected an animals that we don’t usually associate with Spring, the Long-Eared Owl. I imagine this particular owl waking up in the middle of the day and deciding to take a stroll on the forest floor. Bunchberry flowers, bluebells, forget-me-nots, dandelions and muscari bells form a thick blanket.
