Monarch and Milkweed Fairy Painting

I have this painting in my mind for many months now, and I am so happy to finally have something in the real world! Milkweed is such a beautiful plant: from its soft velvety leaves, delicate flowers and astonishing seed pods, there is something to admire all year round. Of course, the monarch butterfly needs no introduction and could not have a more fitting name. This spectacular butterfly can travel more than 4000 km from Canada to Mexico, participating in one of the longest insect migrations in the world! What a spectacular milkweed and the monarch butterfly form! Indeed, monarch butterflies lay their eggs on milkweed and the caterpillar exclusively feeds on this plant. This is why it is so important to protect and plant milkweed in our green spaces and to avoid using chemical herbicides.

For this painting, I used watercolours and ink on watercolour paper. I also added a background digitally.

If you enjoy this piece, it is available in my Etsy shop as a print and a card. Each time you buy from my shop, you support my work as an independent artist and allow me to keep on creating!
