I’ve been working on a calendar project for 2023, and I’m excited to share each month with you. I think these paintings are some of my best work. They were all done in watercolour on watercolour paper and edited digitally.

For this project, I gave myself the theme of “A Year in a Canadian Forest”. I therefore only painted plants and animals that are native (or naturalized) to Canada.

For August, I wanted to capture the nostalgia that seems to permeate the end of Summer. It is still hot and beautiful, but something has changed. This Indigo Bunting is gently swaying on cosmos flowers in the early morning, savouring the cool and quiet.
