I hope you are all doing well!
This week, I’ve been dreaming of summer. With our little seedlings growing each day, it is so much fun imagining our garden in just a few weeks. We are planting some different varieties of sunflowers this year: teddy bear and mammoth sunflowers seedlings have sprouted! Maybe it is because of that that I wanted to paint this sunflower. Yellow flower present very particular challenges because yellow paint it quite difficult to move around once it is on paper. Shadows are also different because you don’t want the bright yellow to turn grey or murky. All that makes for a very interesting painting experience. The sunflower also presents its own particular challenges. This time, I’ve surrendered and kept the centre of the flower quite simple, but I think I’ll research some more on the double spiral the seeds form and on how to draw them. In any case, it was once again a very fun painting to work on, and I hope you’ll like it too!

Outside the atelier, I’ve been compulsively checking on our seedlings. Some of the seeds we bought this year were marked as having a low germination rate. So of course, they almost all sprouted! I’m not complaining, but it does mean that we will have some separation work to do. I’m hoping we will be able to do this with minimal disturbance and have good results. Any tips are welcomed!

That’s it!
Until next week,
Take care 🧡🧡🧡
